Thursday 20th February 1879

We had thought starting off from 5 am riding a place about 12 miles away and have some Kangaroo and Wallaby shoot but it was raining so hard we had the idea to give up. It was rainy throughout the day. Passing a little sleepless night - prevented the novelty of the situation me to sleep. Turned out and washed in a Tin basin. Everything is of Zinn: Pannikins plates, plates, spoons, salt, pepper and mustard pots. Had breakfast at the 7. One of the surveyors left us, starting from early in the morning.

After breakfast we went the turbo horny Platypus man not saw shooting - two gun between four of us. Came across a swamp where swarms of winged spur shot Plover - and bought back five. Missed two shots, but both. Came back to the Commons for more ammunition and then walked the Creek. I came across some duck of a shot. Eat all together in one, as usual. Tea to drink. Bread is good shock absorbers. So far has our food Bacon (very salty), potted things corned beef (which is good), potatoes and eggs. Wet afternoon - shot and fell asleep. Tea at 6 - Plover had made in a pie. Another of the inspectors left in during the morning.

The Dr was shoot one of the men and me Platypus along the Creek. You come to feed only in the early morning and late in the evening. The Dr a shot and got it. The man two shot but you both got away, hard to kill. I had no weapon. The three of us slept in a tent tonight. I had the bunks, Dr which others, and the third one slept on the floor. A regular dirty night. After shooting we sat in our tent and Las candle light.
